It Is Time To Start Designing For The Mobile First!

Oct 31, 2011

More and more players have smartphones and we need to design for that when we design igaming products. The days when players just sat home by their PC playing are over and now they want to be able to play when ever and where ever they are.

Users (players) have a mobile phone with them almost all the time. It has become the center piece in the user experience, so when designing player experiences you need to start focusing on the mobile experience as well, and look at the total player experience, not just the PC experience.

When you design for mobile experiences you need to think a little bit different because of a number of constraints. For instance the smaller screen size and network speed. These constraints aren’t just bad, they give you an opportunity to design something that takes into account where the user is and in what situation he wants to play. So it might be on the bus to work, on the lunch break or on the couch at home at the same time as he is watching TV.

I believe that igaming companies that put an effort into the mobile gaming space will be very successful in the end. What do you think?

If you want to learn more about designing for mobile experiences then I highly recommend a book by Luke Wroblewski called ”Mobile First”. Or if you need help with a mobile igaming strategy then get in touch, me and inUse can help you out!
